Portland Estates and Portland Hills is a vibrant, active and diverse community situated in the heart of the Portland
Valley in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (see map below). Starting in the early 1980s, the community was built in stages
by several developers, and now has a population approaching 6,000 people. Situated between two lakes –Morris
Lake and Russell Lake — the community enjoys the best of country and city, but also recognizes how fragile the
balance between environment and growth can be.”Source

homes. Towards newer Portland Hills this trend in continued and in some sections, the homes are massive!
Developed in the past 30-50 years.
They are popular places due to the schools and amenities built around the area.

They are quite notably affluent communities stretching from Cole Harbour Rd.  back all
the way to  Baker Dr; adjacent to the 111 running through to Woodside.  Portland  Estates
runs  to  the Elementary school  on the left and then  turns into Portland Hills – A newer
Subdivision, with its own rapid bus terminal which you can walk to for a quick trip to downtown
Dartmouth or Halifax depending on your preference.  Also home to an Irish pub called Finbars.

Colby village stretches pretty far to the south, just left of Caldwell  Road with great schools
and good access to transportation and amenities like several Malls and everything that you could
want a quick car jaunt away. Also, all these communities are really close to Dartmouth Crossing –
major shopping destination. It is literally a ten-minute drive away.

As far as green space goes, there is the Portland Lakes greenway which stretches  2.2 km. It is a linear trail
taking 45 mins return trip.  The trail has a groomed crusher dust surface. Access and parking at Birches Park which also
has a great playground for kids. For the sports minded there is Cole Harbour Place which is located on the
Cole Harbour Parkway. They have an indoor pool, Ice rink and various fitness facilities.  It’s just a  5 minutes
drive away.

Both areas are known to be perfect candidates for flight crews at nearby Shearwater.

  1. Please let me know if you’re looking for a author for your site. You have some really good articles and I believe I would be a good asset. If you ever want to take some of the load off, I’d absolutely love to write some material for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine. Please send me an email if interested. Thank you!

  2. Hi there this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
